End of Term News
I hope that you are well and looking forward to half term week and, hopefully, some good weather.
We are very sorry to say goodbye to some staff leavers this half term: Mrs Faye Coaten, one of our teaching assistants and Victoria Nightingale, our attendance officer. They are both moving on to progress in their careers. Although we are very sorry to be losing these colleagues, we wish them well in their new roles and are pleased they have been able to progress in this way, using their experience from the College.
Parking at the start and end of the school day
Can I once again remind you that, apart from exceptional circumstances involving, for example, collecting an injured or poorly child from Reception, parents/carers should not drive down the access road towards the buildings on the Normanby site. At both ends of the school day, we have well over 400 students entering or leaving the site via the Mayfield Road exit and it simply is not safe to mix traffic with so many students. I know that there are limited spaces in the car park at the edge of the field, but please consider delaying your pickup time by 5 or 10 minutes as the area is clear by 3.40pm each evening.
GCSE, A-level, BTEC and other vocational qualifications
Students in Years 11 and 13 are in the thick of their exams at the moment. The behaviour of our students during this period has been really sensible.
We are going to say goodbye to our Year 13 students today with an assembly. They have been a marvelous year group and I have known most of them since they were 11. We will be sorry to see them go, but we know they will be going off to do great things.
For our Year 11 students, we are running workshops that we expect all students to attend, up to and including Friday 10 June. We will say goodbye to the students properly with an assembly on Thursday 23 June, after their science exam, and before some of them leave for their Duke of Edinburgh expedition.
I have attached the uniform policy just as a reminder for everyone. Parents may well be starting to buy items for next year and, therefore, we want to make sure that our uniform requirements are clear for you. After half term, although students will be expected to wear blazers in communal areas, they may remove them in lessons.
End of year assessments for Year 9, 10 and 12
Well done to our Year 9 and Year 10 students who have completed their end of year exams. We hope that they have found this experience useful and we will review how this process has gone to keep improving this for students.
Our Year 12 students have now been issued with their end of year exam timetables. The exam period also incorporates a trip to a UCAS fair, at which the students will be able to find out about university courses.
Thank you very much to our staff and students who made the lockdown procedure we held yesterday as easy as it ever could be. It must have been very difficult for some people as we were not able to explain to them what was happening. However, everyone’s quick reactions were a credit to them.
Have a restful half term.
